Helicopter Software Assurance
Military helicopters rely upon many complex IT systems for safe and effective operations. These come from a range of sources and must work seamlessly together. TPG consultants have been working for many years on the delivery of the Lynx AW159 Wildcat. This utility helicopter replaces the previous generation Lynx with uses in battlefield, search and rescue and anti-surface warfare.
In the system development method, there are many system-derived requirements. The TPG team verifies the airframe sub-systems to meet these in a series of iterative stages to ensure compliance prior to system integration testing on the actual hardware and reference rigs. Observations and failures are recorded and feed into traceability matrices as part of the Body of Evidence for Certification. This is a key step in permitting the aircraft to enter service.
This work is typical of the software assurance projects carried out by the TPG Services team at Wincanton. Through their skills, complex safety-critical and mission-critical systems are delivered quickly to assist with bringing aircraft into service sooner.
